QUR'ANIC ARABIC COURSE

Day/Time: Sundays 9.15am - 11.15am (starting Sun 10 Jan 2010)

Tutor: Hafiz Abduallah Muhammad LLB (Hons), PGCE, MA

Pre-requisite: This is a formal course for comitted people only who can read the script of the Quran (Tajweed not essential). All words and sentences will be exclusively from the Quran.

Cost: £130 per term (13 weeks) payable termly in advance. (The full course will run for 3 terms until December 2010).

Deposit: Payment £50 deposit-refundable at end of course. (£5 will be deducted for each lesson missed /£2 for latness).

Materials: Access to Quranic Arabic by Abdul Wahid Hamid (textbook, workbook, selections with CD's - £50 set)

JOURNEY THROUGH THE QURAN

DETAILED STUDY OF THE QURAN OF JUZ 'AMMA (PART 30)

The course will provide an oportunity to undertake a detailed study of the structure, themes and guidance provided in all the 37 chapters in Juz 'Amma (PART 30) of the Quran. This will be done by providing a systematic study of each of the surahs as follows:

How the surah names are related to each surah and the historical context of its relevations (asbab al-nuzul)

Internal - textual relationship and coherence (nazm) between the verses of each surah and the relationship with the preceding/following surah.

Cross-refernce to other parts of the Quran to demonstrate how the Quran explains the Quran.

Discussion on the linguistic and stylic devices (balaghah), problems with translation/interpretation and alternative plausible interpretations.

Practical guidance and lessons derived from each surah.
